Cool shot experiment - the cutaway shot

Our first editing practice task was to look at cutaways and how the same reaction can be used in response to different things. In my cutaway a women walk in looking confused, it then cuts to a pair of shoes and then back again to the women who now looks relieved. This expression is repeated two more times with two other things that the camera cuts too.

Continuity task

For this task we were asked to demonstrate some new camera shots and editing techniques we have learnt. In my video I used a tracking shot as well as a cutaway shot and a mid shot. I also used a black and white filter as well as some old comedy music to give it an old movie look.

AS Lighting Practice Task

Key points about lighting - It is easier to make footage darker than lighter. - The lighting sets the mood. Types of lighting 3-point Fill Lighting - 3 lights create a normal looking scene with soft shadows and average colours. This is used in most 'normal' scenes with any object in focus.   Chiaroscuro - harsh lighting that creates an extreme contrast between different areas of the shot, such as a characters face. Common in horrors.  High key lighting - uses harsh, bright lights to reduce contrast in a scene, giving the scene a white-washed, clean look that does not have any shadow in frame. Used commonly in beauty adverts.  Low key lighting - Creates shadows and contrast between colours. It is used to create atmosphere and is often used in thrillers, horrors or romantic imagery.  Back lighting - when the scene is lit directly from behind, usually by some form of natural light, where it is used to create a silhouette.
