Analysis of different adverts
Advert 1 - Dairy milk gorilla
This advert is very humorous since it’s unusual that a gorilla can play the drums. I think it’s aimed at a younger audience since children tend to believe animals that have human like characteristics are real. Also children are more likely to see the funny side to this advert although many adults would too. The values, attitudes and beliefs that Cadbury are trying to display in this advert is the joy that their chocolate brings to people, even gorillas.
Advert 2 - Sainsbury’s Christmas ad 2014
This advert is set in World War One around Christmas time, both the English and German army are singing silent night on Christmas Eve which shows the audience this sense of community between the two armys even though they are fighting against each other. Then on Christmas Day they all play football together symbolising that they are the same and perhaps they don’t even know why they are fighting. An English man gives a German man his coat with his chocolate bar in the pocket that his wife sent for him, the English man is left eating his stale crackers on Christmas instead of the chocolate he could’ve had. Here Sainsbury’s is trying to show that Christmas is about sharing and spreading kindness, even in the awful conditions of the war this man was being kind to his opposing team. This advert is perhaps aimed at an older audience who can relate to what happened in World War One since they maybe lived through it. The attitudes, values and beliefs that Sainsbury’s is trying to portray in this advert is that everyone needs a little kindness at Christmas time.
Advert 3 - Costa coffee ‘never a dull cup’
This advert is humorous because of the crazy funny spokes man and the lighthearted mockery of motivational speaking. The dramatic music adds to the humour of this but it also adds to this idea of Costa workers being determined to make the best cup of coffee. The attitudes, values and beliefs that Costa are trying to put across in this advert are that they are a hardworking company who are dedicated and determined to serve their customers good coffee. I think that the target audience for this advert is middle age working people who frequently drink coffee on their way to work because this advert persuades that category of people that they should try Costa coffee who put hard work into their coffee instead of making it at home.
